Bentley 2013 sales hit record as Americas demand offsets China

LONDON (Reuters) - Bentley Motors said sales of its ultra-luxury saloons, coupes and convertibles set a record last year as demand from the Americas outweighed shrinking deliveries in China. Bentley, owned by Germany's Volkswagen <VOWG_p.DE>, sold 10,120 cars in 2013, 19 percent more than the previous year and the fourth-straight year of double-digit volume growth, the Britain-based carmaker said on Wednesday.

Audi to boost spending on cars, plants in bid to catch BMW

BERLIN (Reuters) - Germany's Audi <VOWG_p.DE> will grow spending on new models, plants and technology in coming years as the luxury carmaker steps up efforts to catch larger competitor BMW <BMWG.DE>, people familiar with the matter said. The Volkswagen-owned division plans to spend more than 20 billion euros ($27.46 billion) on global operations through 2018, said the people on condition they not be identified because Audi's spending plan won't be published until December 27.

German new car sales set for slightly better 2014

New car sales in Germany are expected to show a 5.0-percent drop in 2013 but to recover slightly next year, trade officials said Tuesday. The number of new car registrations, a key measure of demand in one of the most crucial sectors of Europe's top economy, is set to reach 2.93 million for all of this year, the VDA automotive industry federation said. While expressing dissatisfaction with the figure, VDA president Matthias Wissmann said that "the slow stabilisation of the German market is continuing".

Audi dealer in tight spot over vehicle maintenance workshop

SEOUL, Nov. 26 (Yonhap) - A dealer of Audi Korea is in a tight spot over its plan to build a large workshop in southern Seoul, officials said Tuesday, as residents pressed the company to drop the plan. Webon Motors, one of the official dealers of Audi Korea, announced a plan to build a vehicle maintenance workshop as well as a showroom in Naegok-dong on the southern edge of Seoul by next year. The plan prompted an angry reaction from residents near the site of the proposed workshop, citing possible health and environmental risks associated with the workshop.

European market plunge tests carmakers' endurance
