Did El Celler de Can Roca copy a Shanghai-based French chef?

Somewhere, in an undisclosed location in Shanghai, a French chef with a string of accolades of his own is gloating quietly about the fact that he had come up with the idea for an operatic, gastronomic dining experience long before the now-famous Roca brothers. Unfortunately for chef Paul Pairet, his timing is a little off. Now, the recognition he’s due for having been the first to bring a multisensory and cinematic culinary experience to diners in Shanghai is being overshadowed by El Celler de Can Roca’s phenomenal week in the spotlight.

Owners of world's top restaurant in Spain look to mum's cooking

Three brothers in Spain's northeastern Catalonia region who snatched the title for the world's best restaurant, the Celler de Can Roca, humbly trace their inspiration to their mum's cooking. The Roca brothers, Joan, Jordi, and Josep, had already wowed critics and diners worldwide with a cutting edge technique and cooking rooted in Spanish and Catalan traditions, earning them three Michelin stars.

Spanish restaurant rated world's best

London, Apr 29 (EFE).- Spain's El Celler de Can Roca was designated the world's best restaurant on Monday on the list prepared each year by the British gastronomic magazine Restaurant. The restaurant - located in Girona, north of Barcelona, and owned by brothers Joan, Josep and Jordi Roca - deposed the Danish establishment Noma, which had headed the list for the past three years and this year came in second. On the list of the world's 50 best restaurants are five Spanish ones, three of them are in the top 10, including Mugaritz at No. 4 and eighth-ranked Arzak.

Denmark's Noma loses world restaurant crown after outbreak

Spain's El Celler de Can Roca seized the title of the world's best restaurant from Denmark's Noma on Monday, one month after dozens of people came down with a bout of food poisoning from the Copenhagen eatery. The restaurant in Girona, run by three brothers and known for its dishes based on perfumes, had spent two years as runner-up on the World's 50 Best Restaurants list compiled for a 12th year by more than 900 international experts for Britain's Restaurant magazine.

Chef's auction sets dinner tab at $36,750

An Asian gourmet dished out $36,750 at a New York auction to have dinner for four with famed chef Ferran Adria. The dizzy tab contributed to a $913,605 sale at Sotheby's late Friday that was based on the revolutionary Catalan cook's stellar wine collection, which he sold along with kitchen gear, two years after shuttering his Michelin three-star elBulli restaurant near Barcelona.
