US F-35 jet plagued by shoddy quality control

The US military's bureaucratic watchdog on Monday accused companies building the F-35 fighter of shoddy management that could jeopardize the reliability, performance and cost of the aircraft. The Pentagon inspector general cited 363 problems in the design and manufacture of the costly Joint Strike Fighter, the hi-tech warplane that is supposed to serve as the backbone of the future American fleet.

Fashion goes high-tech at futuristic Guy Laroche show

Timeless classics on Wednesday got a makeover for spring/summer 2014 at Paris fashion week in a futuristic science fiction-inspired collection from Guy Laroche, marrying versatile high-tech fabrics with traditional silks. White shirts and black trousers were "turned on their heads" with off-centred collars and extra-high waists and double layers, while "surreal" cocktail dresses came with voluminous front box pleats. On the second day of Paris fashion week, the collection aimed to explore "the tension between natural and artificial, man-made and high-tech", the label said.

Tuxedos meet sportswear at Dior fashion show

Dior Homme's Kris Van Assche on Saturday created a hall of mirrors mimicking the glinting Miami skyline in a collection the designer said would give men flexibility to dress for both the "boardroom and the beach". The "shorts suit" with many pieces featuring part-satin patchwork ran through Van Assche's collection for summer 2014. "It all started in Miami where I felt really ridiculous in a tuxedo on the beach so I really wanted to mix the formal and the informal," the Dior Homme creative director said backstage after the show.

Menu of hamburger prints and denim ends Milan men's fashion week

By Isla Binnie MILAN (Reuters) - Top designers presented hamburger prints, colored jeans and soft interpretations of formal suits to conclude Milan men's fashion week on Tuesday, recognizing a new generation of men who dare to be bold and casual. Knitwear replaced shirts under soft jackets at Giorgio Armani, while Ermanno Scervino dressed models in Swarovski gem-encrusted denim, creating the "upper casual" style which is growing on the back of demand from Asian consumers.

J.Crew launches London pop-up store

The preppy US retailer has opened a summer pop-up store in London and teamed up with the city's famous fashion school, Central Saint Martins, for a series of projects.  For its first foray in the city J.Crew is setting up a temporary shop in the Western Transit Shed in King's Cross, London. Featuring the brand's famous monogramming service, as well as a selection of special Spring/Summer pieces and a preview of the Fall collection, the pop-up shop is set to live up to its name and will be open for just 48 hours, from May 24 to 25.

The Spitalfields, London-based fashion brand AllSaints has launched a new film division designed to unveil "innovative and exclusive" films and video exhibitions that capture the spirit of the brand.  AllSaints Film is a brand new project set to bring exciting new films and installations to life, as well as commissioning the next generation of young filmmakers.
