Philadelphia 76ers guard Jason Richardson, sidelined for the remainder for the NBA season, underwent successful left knee surgery on Tuesday, the team announced.
Richardson, a 12-year NBA veteran who has not played since having the knee drained of fluid on January 18, had an articular cartilage lesion on the medial condyle of his femur bone repaired at New York's Mt. Sinai Medical Center.
Recovery time was expected to be from six to nine months, meaning Richardson might not return until the 2013-14 NBA campaign has already started.
