Football: Ex-Argentina coach Bielsa closes in on Marseille job

Former Argentina coach Marcelo Bielsa moved closer to taking charge at Marseille on Friday as he watched the slumping French giants against Montpellier in Ligue 1. The 58-year-old Bielsa, who has also coached Chile and Althletic Bilbao in Spain, took his seat 45 minutes before kick-off alongside Manuel Amoros, a former Marseille player, and Diego Reyes, who was his right-hand man at Bilbao. Bielsa is the favourite to succeed Jose Anigo, who took over from Elie Baup in December.

Football: Bielsa accepts Athletic have underperformed

Athletic Bilbao manager Marcelo Bielsa has said he has not made the most of the resources available to him this season. The Argentine, who will bring up his 100th game in charge of Athletic in the Basque derby against Real Sociedad on Friday night, said that his side had not met lived up to expectations after reaching two cup finals last season. "What I want to say is that the management of the human resources we have has not been adequate," he told reporters.
