Golf: Chapchai, Liang share lead in Avantha Masters

Thai Chapchai Nirat and China's Liang Wenchong shot rounds of 66 on Friday to lead the Avantha Masters at the halfway stage but European Tour great Colin Montgomerie failed to make the cut. Chapchai and Liang carded identical six-under-par scores in each of the first two rounds of the $2.3 million event at the Greg Norman-designed par-72 Jaypee Greens course outside New Delhi to leave them joint top on 12-under. "I played very well indeed," said Chapchai, a three-time winner on the Asian Tour who is looking for his first European Tour title after six years.

Golf: Thailand's Chinnarat cards 28 on back nine

Thailand's Chinnarat Phadungsil carded an astonishing 28 on the back nine as he shot a flawless 11-under-par to take a five-stroke lead after the first round of the Avantha Masters Thursday. Eight of Chinnarat's 11 birdies on the Greg Norman-designed par-72 Jaypee Greens course outside New Delhi came on the inward half -- his 61 leaving him well ahead of the chasing pack in the $2.3 million tournament. "This has to be the best round of golf I have ever played," the 24-year-old winner of three Asian Tour titles said. "It was just so smooth for me out there.

Golf: Siddikur takes lead over local favourites in India

Bangladesh's Siddikur carded a third straight four-under-par 68 to claim a one-shot lead over title holder Anirban Lahiri of India at the SAIL-SBI Open in New Delhi on Friday. Siddikur fired five birdies against a lone bogey at the Delhi Golf Club to lead from Lahiri, who birdied his last two holes for a bogey-free 66. Joint overnight leader Khalin Joshi battled to a 71 to end the day two strokes back in the $300,000 Asian Tour event, while another local hope Rashid Khan was a further shot behind after also carding a 71.

Golf: Chapchai and debutant Joshi lead in Delhi

Thailand's Chapchai Nirat shot a six-under-par 66 to share the first round lead with India's Khalin Joshi at the SAIL-SBI Open in New Delhi on Wednesday. Chapchai, who has gone without a win for four years, fired eight birdies and two bogeys at the Delhi Golf Club while the 20-year-old local hope Joshi carded nine birdies on his professional debut. The pair hold a one-shot lead over Chan Kim of the United States, while India's Chiragh Kumar and Bangladesh's Siddikur made 68s at the $300,000 event.

Golf-'King Kong' Chapchai leads in happy hunting ground India

NEW DELHI, March 6 (Reuters) - Thailand's Chapchai Nirat began his bid to end a four-year title drought by grabbing a share of the lead with six-under-par 66 at the SAIL-SBI Open on Wednesday. Armed with a hot putter, the 29-year-old Thai nailed eight birdies, as against two bogeys, at the par-72 Delhi Golf Club to jointly lead the Asian Tour event he famously won four years back with local rookie Khalin Joshi.
