Blast in central Damascus kills nine

A blast rocked the central Damascus district of Marjeh on Tuesday, Syrian state television said, with a watchdog group saying at least nine people were killed in the attack. "Terrorist explosion in Marjeh district of Damascus and preliminary information on casualties," state television reported. "The toll in a car bomb near the old interior ministry building Marjeh district rose to nine and the number was expected to rise further because there are dozens of injured, some in critical condition," the Syrian Observatory for Human Rights watchdog said.

A suicide attack hit a Damascus mosque in the Mazraa neighbourhood of the capital on Thursday, just north of the city centre, killing a senior pro-regime Sunni cleric, Syrian state television reported. Car bomb kills five soldiers in Damascus as clashes erupt

A suicide car bomb blew up at an army checkpoint in northeastern Damascus on Monday night, leaving five soldiers killed, a watchdog said, as rebels pressed toward the centre of the capital. The Syrian Observatory for Human Rights reported heavy fighting around the checkpoint, located on the edge of rebel-held Qaboon district, and between the adjacent district of Jobar and the iconic Abbasid Square. A security source confirmed the attack against the checkpoint and said that there were casualties among the troops without giving a figure.
