"America," Warhol's love letter to U.S., published in Spanish

Madrid, Nov 18 (EFE).- "America," Andy Warhol's collection of black-and-white snapshots of his country, has been translated into Spanish 28 years after its publication in English. The volume, which includes the artist's observations on society and even politics, "is a fundamental book, prodigious in its clairvoyant thoughts of a future that has turned out to be very similar to the present moment," Estrella de Diego, who translated the work into Spanish for publisher Siruela, said.

As music blared from speakers at the outdoor memorial on the terrace at Lincoln Center for the Performing Arts, fans danced, sat and listened to Reed's music and strolled through the crowd while his wife, performance artist Laurie Anderson, greeted friends and well-wishers.

NEW YORK, N.Y. - Longtime music writer and Rolling Stone critic Anthony DeCurtis is writing a biography of Lou Reed. Little, Brown and Company announced Thursday that it had acquired a book by DeCurtis. The writer interviewed Reed numerous times and wrote the liner notes for an anthology of songs by the group Reed led in the 1960s, the Velvet Underground. Little, Brown bills the biography as offering "the inside story" of the brilliant and contentious artist. The book is currently untitled and does not yet have a release date.

Washington, Oct 28 (EFE).- American rock music legend Lou Reed, co-founder of The Velvet Underground, died over the weekend, his agent, Andrew Wylie, said. He was 71. The causes of Reed's death have not been revealed, though Wylie said they could be related to a liver transplant he had last May. The musician died in Long Island, New York, on Sunday. As leader of The Velvet Underground, which he created together with Welshman John Cale in 1964, Reed renewed the language of rock and roll with numbers known for an unusual mix of noise and melody.

Two masterpieces by US artist Andy Warhol go under the hammer in New York next month, with the highlights of the auction season expected to fetch up to $120 million.
