Baghdad, May 15 (EFE).- At least 10 people died and 13 others were wounded in two car-bomb attacks on government buildings Wednesday in Kirkuk, a city 250 kilometers (155 miles) north of Baghdad, an Iraqi police spokesman told Efe. The deadlier attack was staged near the financial control department building in Al Khadra, a neighborhood in the southwestern part of the city. The bomb killed six people, wounded eight and caused extensive damage both to the government building and nearby structures.

A roadside bomb killed an Iraqi provincial elections candidate and three other people north of Baghdad on Sunday, bringing the number of candidates killed in attacks to 14, officials said. Najm al-Harbi was on travelling to Baquba on a highway in Diyala province in his personal vehicle when the bomb exploded, killing him, two of his brothers and a bodyguard, a police lieutenant colonel and a doctor said. An official from Deputy Prime Minister Saleh al-Mutlak's office confirmed Harbi's death, and said he was the head of the deputy premier's list in Diyala province.

Twenty-six people were killed and dozens of others injured in separate attacks in violence-plagued Iraq on Saturday, provincial police source said. Gunmen killed an anti-government protest organiser in north Iraq on Sunday, while a city council member and a farmer were shot dead in other attacks, police and doctors said. Unknown gunmen shot dead Bnayan Sabar al-Obeidi in front of his house in the northern city of Kirkuk, they said. Protesters have taken to the streets in Sunni-majority areas of Iraq for more than two months, calling for Prime Minister Nuri Maliki's resignation and decrying the alleged targeting of their minority community by Shiite-led authorities.
