Soccer-Relief for Corinthians as home fan ban reduced

By Andrew Downie SAO PAULO, March 7 (Reuters) - Corinthians supporters will be allowed back into the stands to watch their team play home Copa Libertadores matches after officials reduced a 60-day ban imposed after a Bolivian boy was killed by a firework. Conmebol, the South American Football Confederation, said the ban on fans for last week's game against Colombian side Millonarios was sufficient as long as there was no further trouble.

Soccer-Velez fans banned after trouble at Libertadores Cup match

March 6 (Reuters) - Velez Sarsfield's fans have been banned from away matches up to the Libertadores Cup semi-finals after causing trouble at Penarol in a clash of former champions last week, the Argentine club said. Velez, winners in 1994, must also host the Uruguayan five-times champions at El Fortin in Buenos Aires behind closed doors when they clash again in Group Four next Tuesday.

Corinthians fan turns himself in over Bolivia flare death

A Corinthians teenage fan who confessed to causing the flare death of a 14-year-old during the Sao Paulo side's Libertadores Cup game in Bolivia last week surrendered to authorities in suburban Sao Paulo Monday. The 17-year-old, accompanied by his lawyer, appeared before a juvenile court in Guarulhos, where he testified for more than two hours about what he has described as an accident.

Soccer-Sao Paulo and Tigre fined over Sudamericana final trouble

ASUNCION, Feb 23 (Reuters) - Sao Paulo and Tigre have been fined $100,000 each for their part in a troubled Copa Sudamericana final in December and the Brazilian team were handed a one-match home ban in South American club competitions. The South American Football Confederation (Conmebol) also confirmed Sao Paulo as title winners in their announcement of the sanctions on their website (www.conmebol.com) on Saturday.
