Police were searching Saturday for thieves who broke into a house in northern England and stole five chihuahuas, including the "best puppy in breed" champion at this year's Crufts competition. Valenchino Chihuahua Xena was snatched along with four other dogs on Thursday. Between them they are thought to be worth tens of thousands of pounds (dollars, euros), although owner Mal Hilton said he was more concerned that they would come to harm.

Young American woman found shot dead in Mexico

A 20-year-old American woman has been found shot dead in a small truck in a village in northern Mexico, officials said Thursday. Kathelyn Nicole Lambert Koegler was found dead in the village of Carichi in Chihuahua state, which borders the United States, the state prosecutor's office said in a statement. She was shot in the body and head and found Tuesday evening in the vehicle, abandoned outside a clinic. The statement said a probe was underway but gave no further details. The woman's family reportedly owned a home in the village.

2 Arrested for slaughtering family in northern Mexico

Mexico City, Nov 20 (EFE).- Two suspects are in custody in connection with the slaughter of eight members of a family inside a home in the northern Mexican metropolis of Ciudad Juarez, the Chihuahua state government said Wednesday. Edgar Uriel Lujan Guevara, 31, and Jesus Daniel Mendoza Hernandez, 21, were arrested Tuesday night in Juarez, just across the border from El Paso, Texas. Police are still searching for a third suspect, state authorities said.

Two detained over family massacre in Mexico

Mexican authorities have detained two men over the stabbing death of eight members of one family, including three children, in a massacre allegedly linked to a dog-fighting debt.
