Huge price hikes for Brazil World Cup hotels

Football fans heading to Rio for the World Cup will have to pay at least double the going rate for hotel accommodation despite government attempts to limit price-gouging during the tournament, a study found Thursday. Globo's G1 news portal cited a study by the TripAdvisor travel website that rates in the swish Copacabana beachside district had been hiked by up to 229 percent. The study says average hotel accommodation prices in the district will hit a wallet-busting 1543.99 reais ($650) per night on match days during the June 12 to July 13 competition.

Higher advertising revenue boosts TripAdvisor results, shares jump

(Reuters) - TripAdvisor Inc <TRIP.O> reported a 26 percent jump in quarterly profit as more people visited the company's travel website, generating higher advertising revenue, sending its shares up 18 percent in after-hours trading. The company aggregates reviews and opinions about destinations and accommodations and depends on ads and subscriptions for revenue.

Mood Media strikes partnership with TripAdvisor for digital signs in hotels

TORONTO - Mood Media Corp. has partnered with TripAdvisor to put the travel website's content on digital signs for use in hotels and other hospitality venues. Mood Media said Thursday that content from TripAdvisor includes real-time user reviews, ratings, photos and recommendations for local attractions. Terms of the deal weren't made public. Mood Media (TSX:MM) said it will market the new digital signage with TripAdvisor content as "MVision Travel."

According to the millions of reviews and opinions submitted by TripAdvisor members this year, Paris has emerged as the most popular travel spot on the 2013 edition of the Travelers’ Choice Destinations Awards. The French capital beat out 412 destinations across 38 markets across the globe to take the take spot.
