China Nile relic vandal hunted down

A Chinese tourist who defaced an ancient Egyptian monument was hunted down by Internet users who prompted his parents to apologise, state media reported on Monday. A photo posted on Chinese social networking service Sina Weibo showed crudely drawn Chinese characters written over an ancient sandstone panel lined with hieroglyphics, the Global Times newspaper said. According to reports, the vandalism took place in a temple dedicated to Amenhotep III in Luxor, on the banks of the Nile River.

NHN-FTC probe

SEJONG, May 21 (Yonhap) -- South Korea's antitrust watchdog has launched an investigation into an online marketing and advertisement unit of NHN Corp. in what appears to be its stepped-up efforts to crack down on unfair business practices, industry sources said Tuesday. The Fair Trade Commission (FTC) started to send a team of investigators on May 13 to the offices of the NHN Business Platform (NBP) located in Bundang, south of Seoul, to obtain related data and documents, according to the sources.

Aging Yahoo! faces new Tumblr generation

Yahoo! is under two decades old and is already showing signs of age. Tumblr, the cool blogging platform, represents a new generation. This split marks both a challenge and an opportunity for the firms, after the announcement that Yahoo! is buying the six-year-old startup for $1.1 billion, mainly in cash. "Yahoo users are behind the curve, Tumblr users too cool for school," said Arvind Narayanan, a Princeton University computer scientist, in a tweet. "From this POV (point of view) the acquisition seems ironically appropriate."

Chinese netizens praised the US Treasury chief Thursday for eating a cheap dumpling lunch after meeting new President Xi Jinping, comparing his modest bill to the lavish spending habits of domestic officials. Microsoft's Yammer adds translation functions

Microsoft said Thursday its Yammer social network for internal corporate communications would add message translation capabilities to help firms with multilingual operations.
