Concrete leaks causes London travel chaos

London commuters suffered rush-hour chaos on Thursday after fast-setting concrete was accidently leaked into a signal control room at a major underground train station. A stretch of London Underground's (LU) key Victoria line was closed, forcing tens of thousands of travellers to seek alternative routes home, after contractors working at Victoria station leaked the water and cement mix into the control room. Nigel Holness, London Underground's operations director, said the mishap damaged equipment, knocking out signals on part of the line.

Colin Firth to voice Paddington Bear in new movie

Oscar-winning British actor Colin Firth will provide the voice for Paddington Bear in a new movie about the marmalade-loving children's character, he revealed on Friday. Firth, who won an Academy Award for his portrayal of Britain's stuttering king George VI in "The King's Speech", told the Daily Mail newspaper the Peruvian bear would be computer-generated, with the rest of the characters played by real actors including Nicole Kidman. "Paddington will be computer-generated, and I will speak his lines with, I suspect, a slight Peruvian flavour," Firth, 53, told the Mail.

Spain: train crash driver received 3 signals to slow down in the minutes before accident

MADRID - The driver of a Spanish train that derailed, killing 79 people, ignored three warnings to reduce speed in the two minutes before the train hurtled off the tracks on a treacherous curve, crash investigators said Friday. A court statement said the driver was talking on the phone to a colleague when he received the first automatic warning in his cabin of a sharply reduced speed zone ahead. The statement said the warning was by means of an audible sound but provided no further detail.
