Football: Vissel Kobe climb to top of J-League

Promoted side Vissel Kobe beat Kashima Antlers 3-2 on Saturday to climb into first place in the J-League for at least 24 hours. Keijiro Ogawa scored a header in the 69th minute to give Vissel the win after twice going behind to Antlers, who were reduced to 10 men when Takeshi Aoki conceded a penalty that Marquinhos converted two minutes before Ogawa's winner. Previous leaders Sanfrecce Hiroshima fell one point behind Vissel, but can reclaim the top spot with a win away to Albirex Niigata on Sunday.

Football: Sanfrecce leapfrog Antlers at top of J-League

Kazuhiko Chiba scored in the 80th minute to send defending champions Sanfrecce Hiroshima to the top of the J-League with a 1-0 win over FC Tokyo on Saturday. Sanfrecce took full advantage of previous leaders Kashima Antlers' 2-1 home loss to Albirex Niigata earlier in the day to go one point clear after seven games of the season. Uruguay striker Diego Forlan scored twice for Cerezo Osaka but was unable to deliver a win in a 2-2 derby draw with Gamba Osaka.

Football: Kashima stay top of J-League

Kashima Antlers beat Gamba Osaka 2-0 on Sunday to stay two points clear at the top of the J-League table as Diego Forlan's Cerezo Osaka suffered their second defeat of the season. Goals in either half for Brazilians Davi and Caio were enough to keep Antlers on top after six games of the new campaign, with defending champions Sanfrecce Hiroshima second after coming from behind to beat Nagoya Grampus 5-2. "We didn't give them any space to play in," said Antlers manager Toninho Cerezo. "This was more than just a win, it was a win for our tactics."

Football: Kashima Antlers go clear at top of J-League

Kashima Antlers came from behind to beat Yokohama F Marinos 3-1 on Saturday to go two points clear at the top of the fledgling J-League table. Yuzo Kurihara gave Marinos the lead with a thumping header three minutes before half-time before goals after the break from Shoma Doi, Takuya Nozawa and Gaku Shibasaki turned things around for seven-time champions Antlers. "We couldn't show what we were capable of in the first half but we really went for it after the interval," said Kashima manager Toninho Cerezo.
