Cycling: Rodriguez retains Catalonia lead as Van Garderen wins stage

Katusha's Spanish rider Joaquin Rodriguez retained the lead of the Tour of Catalonia after Thursday's fourth stage won by American Tejay Van Garderen. Rodriguez finished fourth in the gruelling 166.4km stage between Alp and the Vallter 2000 ski resort, a ride which featured ascents of five Pyrennean peaks. In the cold and fog, all the Tour's favourites came through in the same group after the final, uncategorised climb.

Frenchman Nacer Bouhanni picked himself up off the tarmac following a crash midway through the opening stage of the Paris-Nice race around the Parisian suburbs on Sunday to take the victory and the leader's yellow jersey. The 23-year-old triumphed in a bunch sprint at Mantes-la-Jolie following a 162.5km stage that was disrupted by several crashes. German John Degenkolb took second on the stage ahead of Belgium's Gianni Meersman in third.

Cycling: Froome retains Tour of Oman crown

Britain's Tour de France champion Christopher Froome successfully defended his Tour of Oman title on Sunday following the sixth and final stage in Muscat. The 28-year-old Kenyan-born Team Sky rider topped the overall classification ahead of American Tejay Van Garderen and Colombian Rigoberto Uran. The sixth stage was won by German sprinter Andre Greipel, his third stage win of the week, as he edged out Frenchman Nacer Bouhanni with Ireland's Sam Bennett third.

Britain's Tour de France champion Christopher Froome moved a step closer to retaining his Tour of Oman crown on Saturday when he took the overall lead after winning the fifth stage. The 28-year-old Kenyan-born rider took over from Friday's fourth-stage winner, Slovakia's Peter Sagan, at the head of the overall standings. Froome came home ahead of American Tejay van Garderen and Colombian Rigoberto Uran on the stage which finished at Jabal Al Akhdar, on the side of the Green Mountain.
