SEOUL, Jan. 16 (Yonhap) -- Sales of clear spirits including vodka rose 31 percent last year from a year ago despite the flagging local alcohol market, industry data showed Thursday.
According to the data, shipments of clear spirits reached 410,764 boxes in 2013 from 313,039 boxes the previous year. One box contains 9 liters.
The market's stellar growth is shown in sales growth that was 17 percent on-year in 2008 but 65 percent in 2012. In contrast, sales of whisky contracted 12.8 percent in 2013 from the previous year. Clear spirits refer to vodka, rum, gin and tequila.
