Boxing: Barthelemy dethrones Mendez with controversial KO

Rances Barthelemy dethroned International Boxing Federation super featherweight champ Argenis Mendez with a controversial second round knockout Friday at the Target Center arena. The 27-year-old Cuban boxer kept his undefeated record intact as he improved to 20-0 with 13 knockouts. Barthelemy sent Mendez to the canvas late in the second round with two hard lefts. It was the first time champion Mendez had been knocked down in his career.

Dominican fighter Argenis Mendez captured the International Boxing Federation junior lightweight title on Saturday by knocking out Mexico's Juan Carlos Salgado in the fourth round. Mendez avenged a 2011 loss to Salgado in his only prior world title bout by landing a hard left to the head and sending the champion to the canvas, where he was called out 45 seconds into the fourth round.
