Tennis: Monfils, Fish withdraw from ATP Montreal event

France's Gael Monfils, ranked 49th in the world, withdrew from next week's ATP event in Montreal on Thursday after suffering an ankle injury in practice. Also withdrawing from the Canadian hardcourt tuneup event for the US Open was American Mardy Fish, who cited personal reasons. Fish reached the third round at Washington this week before losing to South African Kevin Anderson. Monfils was to have been a wildcard entry at Montreal. He had previously withdrawn from this week's ATP event in Washington.

Tennis-Fish thrilled to make winning ATP return

By Mark Lamport-Stokes INDIAN WELLS, California, March 10 (Reuters) - Simply being back on the tennis court felt like a victory for Mardy Fish on Sunday after the American returned to action following a lengthy recovery from a heart condition. The fact that he was able to fight back from a break down in the third set to seal a 6-3 3-6 6-4 win against compatriot Bobby Reynolds at the BNP Paribas Open was double cause for celebration.
