A man who opened fire on the White House with an assault rifle after telling friends he was on a mission from God to kill President Barack Obama was jailed for 25 years on Monday. Oscar Ramiro Ortega-Hernandez drove more than 2,000 miles (3,200 kilometers) to the US capital from his home in Idaho to carry out his November 2011 attack. Prosecutors said he fired at least eight rounds at the White House after telling friends he was "on a mission from God to take out" Obama.

Man saying he was shot by ex-NFL star is shot again

BOSTON (Reuters) - A man who said former New England Patriots football star Aaron Hernandez had shot him in the face a year ago was shot again late on Sunday, Connecticut police said. Alexander Bradley was shot several times in the leg during a fight at a Hartford night club, Lieutenant Brian Foley of the Hartford Police Department said on Monday. Foley said Bradley was taken to a hospital for treatment and that police were investigating the shooting.

Hernandez died in hospital early on Monday morning after suffering from a series of complications, his son said. Known as "La Quina," Hernandez was thrown in jail weeks after President Carlos Salinas took office in December 1988.

The victim, semi-professional football player Odin Lloyd, was discovered on June 17 in an industrial area not far from Hernandez' North Attleborough home.
