NIS agent detained for faking evidence in espionage case

SEOUL, March 19 (Yonhap) -- A South Korean intelligence agent was formally detained Wednesday on charges of forging Chinese government documents used to frame a North Korean defector for espionage, court officials said. The midranking National Intelligence Service (NIS) agent, only identified by his surname Kim, is suspected of giving instructions to a Chinese national to obtain the documents that were later used in the defector's court trials.
