Hyundai, Kia unveil ix25 SUV, K4 at Beijing auto show

SEOUL, April 20 (Yonhap) -- Hyundai Motor Co. and Kia Motors Corp. took the wraps off the ix25 sub-compact sport utility vehicle (SUV) and the brand-new K4 midsize sedan at the Beijing International Automotive Exhibition, the companies said Sunday. The two largest South Korean automakers and flagships of Hyundai Motor Group, the world's fifth-largest automotive conglomerate, said the global debut of the concept car models took place at the China International Exhibition Center in the Chinese capital city. The nine-day exhibition will run through April 29.

Kia unveils new Carnival minivan before global debut

SEOUL, April 15 (Yonhap) -- Kia Motors Corp. on Tuesday released photos of its new Carnival minivan ahead of its global debut at this week's New York International Auto Show. The new vehicle is the third-generation model of the carmaker's steady seller minivan that first reached consumers in 1998. The car marketed as the Sedona in the United States has posted 1.55 million units in sales so far, with 978,000 of the cars being sold overseas.

Hyundai, Kia overseas production hits record high in Q1

SEOUL, April 8 (Yonhap) -- Overseas production by Hyundai Motor Co. and its sister brand Kia Motors Corp. in the first quarter hit a record 1,093,881 units, corporate data showed Tuesday. The total represents a 6.1 percent increase from 1,031,316 vehicles in the same cited period last year and the highest reached in a three-month period, figures provided by the two automakers showed. Foreign production of Hyundai cars rose 4 percent on-year to 754,222 units, while numbers for Kia shot up 10.9 percent to 339,659 vehicles.

Kia Motors' March sales jump 15.2 pct

SEOUL, April 1 (Yonhap) -- Kia Motors Corp., South Korea's second-largest automaker, said Tuesday that its sales jumped 15.2 percent in March from a year ago, mainly helped by more overseas demand. The carmaker said it sold a total of 272,002 units overall last month, up from 236,076 a year earlier. Of all cars sold, sales in the home market contracted 1.3 percent on-year to 39,005 units, while overseas sales stood at 232,997, an 18.5 percent increase from March 2013, the company said in a statement.

Kia Motors opens school in Mozambique

SEOUL, March 28 (Yonhap) -- Kia Motors Corp., South Korea's No. 2 automaker, said Friday that it has opened a new secondary school in Mozambique as part of its social outreach program. The new secondary school, located in Helene, will offer more educational opportunities for locals living in the east African nation and highlights the social contributions of the carmaker's Green Light Project. In addition to the school, Kia, an affiliate of Hyundai Motor Group, the world's fifth largest automotive conglomerate, donated three Bongo vans that can ferry students.

The country's second-largest carmaker said the car built on the platform of second generation Soul hatchback will hit the market in South Korea late this week.

Kia Motors' February sales surge 18.2 pct

SEOUL, March 3 (Yonhap) -- Kia Motors Corp., South Korea's second-largest automaker, said Monday its sales surged 18.2 percent in February from a year ago, helped by more working days than the month before from the Lunar New Year holiday. The carmaker said it sold a total of 242,799 units overall last month, up from 205,341 vehicles tallied a year earlier. Of all cars sold, sales in the home market jumped 6.4 percent on-year to 35,000 units, while overseas sales stood at 207,799, a 20.5 percent increase from February 2013, the company said in a statement.
