Jonathan Pelissie scored 31 points as Montpellier routed Clermont 43-3 on Friday to move top in France.
Scrum-half Pelissie scored two of his team's four tries and kicked 21 points in the bonus-point Top 14 win as Clermont, whose last victory at Montpellier's Stade du Manoir was in 2009, were knocked off the summit.
"It's a wonderful evening for everyone. Everything worked for me," said Pelissie, whose side are top of the table for the first time since October, 2010.
"It was good to take the bonus point especially against a team like Clermont."
