Swiss Kummer wins women's parallel giant slalom gold

Vanessa Mae to swap violin for skis in Sochi

Violinist Vanessa Mae has officially qualified to ski for Thailand at the Winter Olympics and will lead the sun-soaked kingdom's biggest-ever team to Sochi's snowy slopes, an official said Tuesday. The 35-year-old former child prodigy, whose father is Thai, is one of two competitors who will represent the Southeast Asian nation in Russia next month -- both on skis. "We just received official notification that two Thais qualified including Mae," a member of the Olympic Committee of Thailand, who did not want to named, told AFP.

Pakistan qualifies for Winter Olympics

Pakistan qualified for the prestigious Olympic Winter Games (OWG) to be held in Sochi, Russia in February next year after participating in International Ski Federation (FIS) races held in Europe and Asia.Talking to this scribe, SFP official said: “Pakistan has attained the required FIS points thus ensuring a birth in the event. The SFP contingent returned from Turkey on March 24. The Pakistani contingent comprising one coach and three athletes participated in the FIS races held from February 17 to March 18. The races were held in Italy, Lebanon and Turkey.
