Owner of collapsed Bangladesh building arrested

Bangladesh police on Sunday arrested the owner of a garment factory block that collapsed last week killing more than 370 people as he attempted to flee to India, officials said. "He has been arrested and will be tried," the country's deputy home minister Shamsul Haque Tuku told reporters, referring to Sohel Rana, allegedly a ruling party official, whose building violated the country's construction code.

Trader’s killing halts export thru’ Benapole port

The export of Bangladeshi goods to India through Benapole land port remained suspended for about two hours following the killing of a transport businessman by an Indian truck in the port area on Saturday.The deceased was identified as transport businessman M Ali Jinna, 62, a resident of Baroachra village of Benapole.

2 truckloads of Indian foods seized in Benapole

Members of Border Guard Bangladesh seized Tk10crore worth of contraband Indian food products at Shyamlagachhi Potapara village here on Thursday night.Acting on secret information, a team of BGB 26 Battalion conducted a raid on an abandoned house at the village and recovered chocolates, son papdi, chewable digestive tablet Hazmola, malted milk hot drinks Bourn Vita and Horlicks and powered milk loaded in two trucks.Value of the seized food items would be around Tk10 crore. However, none was arrested in connection with the seizure. A case was filed with Benapole thana.

Workers go on indefinite strike at Benapole port shade Monday

Benapole Port-handling Workers’ Union will enforce an indefinite strike at a shade of the port on Monday demanding action against shade in-charge Nahiduzzaman.President of the workers’ union Golam Mostafa said in-charge of Shade-41 was caught red-handed while taking three sacks of imported clothes out of the port on April 2.They workers informed the port director of the matter and demanded taking action against him.
