KARA to have fan events in S. Korea, Japan

SEOUL, April 16 (Yonhap) -- South Korean girl group KARA will hold special events for their local and Japanese fans next month in the group's first public appearance in five months, its management agency said Wednesday. The group will hold "fan meeting" events in Seoul on May 24 and in Tokyo on June 1 for members of its fan clubs, according to DSP Media. These would mark the group's first public activities since it switched to a three-member band after the departure of two of its original five members -- Kang Ji-young and Nicole -- in January.

Girls' Generation member quizzed by police over alleged assault

SEOUL, April 1 (Yonhap) -- Hyo-yeon, a member of K-pop group Girls' Generation, has undergone questioning by police on suspicion of hitting a male acquaintance after a practical joke went awry, police said Tuesday. Seoul's Yongsan Police Station called in Hyo-yeon for questioning after the man, whose identity was withheld, filed a report accusing the singer of striking him in the face at a mutual acquaintance's home on Sunday.

2NE1 lands in 61st place on Billboard 200

SEOUL, March 6 (Yonhap) -- South Korean girl group 2NE1 debuted impressively on the Billboard 200 album chart with its latest album, setting a new record as the highest-charting and best-selling K-pop album. 2NE1's second full-length album "Crush" landed at No. 61 on the Billboard 200, selling 50 million copies in the week ending March 2, the Billboard.com said on Wednesday (on U.S. EST), quoting Nielsen SoundScan.

2NE1's new album sweeps charts

SEOUL, Feb. 27 (Yonhap) -- K-pop group 2NE1 released its long-anticipated second full-length album Thursday, nabbing the top spot on numerous music charts in a matter of hours. Soon after its release on online music services at midnight, "Comeback Home," the main track on the album "Crush," topped real-time charts of 10 services, including Melon, Mnet, Olleh Music, Naver Music, Daum Music and Bugs. Another major piece, "Gotta Be You," came next on those charts while most of the remaining tracks also placed high.
