Football: Rangers chief Green to resign

Rangers confirmed on Friday that chief executive Charles Green has offered to resign with immediate effect following recent revelations about his takeover of the fallen Scottish giants. Green is expected to leave Ibrox by the end of May, with the search for his replacement already under way. He took the decision to step down following "negative publicity" in recent weeks over his consortium's acquisition of the club last year, but, "strenuously denies any wrongdoing".

Rangers face fresh turmoil after CEO Green quits

By Keith Weir LONDON (Reuters) - Charles Green, the businessman who led the rescue of former Scottish football champions Rangers last year, stepped down as chief executive on Friday saying allegations about his takeover risked damaging the club. The abrupt departure is a fresh blow to the Glasgow club, Scottish champions a record 54 times, who had to relaunch from the fourth tier in Scotland after their former parent company collapsed under a pile of debt.
