Dutch college in Leiden evacuated after bomb threat: police

A technical college in the Dutch city of Leiden -- where schools were closed and armed police deployed early this week after a threat of a mass shooting -- was evacuated on Friday because of a bomb alert, police said. "The school (for further education) was evacuated after a bomb threat," police spokeswoman Welleke van Rantwijk told AFP, adding that there was "apparently no link to the threat" made earlier in the week. "The school is now empty, the police are there investigating," she said.

Dutch police free school shooting threat suspect

Dutch police said Tuesday they had released a former British School pupil arrested in connection with an online threat to carry out a school shooting after ruling him out as a suspect. The threat to "shoot my Dutch teacher and as many students as I can" made on a US-based website over the weekend led to all secondary schools in the university city of Leiden being closed on Monday and armed police being deployed. "The suspect arrested for threatening a Leiden school has been released... and is no longer a suspect," police said in a statement.
