India asks Australia to return two Hindu statues believed stolen

SYDNEY (Reuters) - India has formally requested two Australian art galleries to return two ancient statues of the Hindu god Shiva after it emerged the artefacts might have been looted from temples before being bought by the galleries several years ago. In an email to Reuters, the Attorney-General's Department said the Government of India asked the Australian government for the return of both statues, saying they were "exported from India in contravention of cultural property laws".

Australian gallery sues Indian dealer over stolen statue

Australia's national art gallery said Thursday it is suing a New York-based art and antiquities dealer over a Shiva statue stolen from an ancient Indian temple for which it paid $5 million. The National Gallery of Australia (NGA) confirmed it is taking Subhash Kapoor, his firm Art of the Past, and former manager Aaron Freedman to New York's Supreme Court over the 2008 purchase of the Shiva as Lord of the Dance (Nataraja), a bronze statue dating from the 11th-12th century Chola dynasty.

Spain's Indra wins airport tower contract in Brazil

Rio de Janeiro, Sep 4 (EFE).- Spain's Indra said it won a contract to equip the air traffic control tower at the airport in Natal, a city in northeastern Brazil, the first international air facility authorized to be operated by a private contractor in the South American country. The contract, which was signed on Tuesday, covers the automated air traffic control systems at Sao Gonçalo do Amarante Airport, Indra, a leading consulting and technology company with operations in Latin America and Europe, said.

Spain's Indra inks power deal with Petrobras

Rio de Janeiro, Apr 22 (EFE).- Spain's Indra, a leading provider of technology products in Europe and Latin America, said Monday it won a contract to supply Brazilian oil giant Petrobras with systems for managing and operating its thermal power plants. "Petrobras will adopt the inGEN system in order to standardize scheduling and operating procedures in real time between the energy operations center (COE) and the company's power plants, as well as communications with the National Electrical System Operator (ONS)," Indra said in a statement.
