Police chief gunned down in central Mexico

Mexico City, Oct 29 (EFE).- The police chief of Aquismon, a city in the central Mexican state of San Luis Potosi, was murdered by gunmen, prosecutors said. Adolfo Bueno Bautista was killed on Monday, the San Luis Potosi Attorney General's Office said in a statement. The police chief and his wife were attacked as they were driving out of the city of Valles toward Tamazunchale, the AG's office said. Investigators have determined that four gunmen in a white pick-up truck caught up to the police chief's automobile and opened fire, the AG's office said.

General Motors to invest $691M in 3 assembly plants in Mexico

MEXICO CITY - General Motors says it will invest $691 million in its assembly plants in the Mexican cities of Silao, San Luis Potosi and Toluca. GM Mexico's president Ernesto Hernandez said Wednesday the investment will help build a new factory in Silao to manufacture 8-speed transmissions and expand the factories in San Luis Potosi and Toluca. Hernandez added that the automotive sector is one the pillars of Mexico's economy, representing more than 20 per cent of manufacturing GDP. GM has operated in Mexico for 78 years.

Death toll rises to 13 in Mexico prison fight

Mexico City, Apr 28 (EFE).- The death toll from the fight at the La Pila prison in the central Mexican state of San Luis Potosi has risen to 13, with 65 other inmates wounded, officials said. The melee broke out at around 4:15 a.m. Saturday and involved two rival gangs inside the prison, the San Luis Potosi Attorney General's Office said. The inmates used knives and other sharp objects, as well as rocks and pieces of concrete slabs, in the fight, the AG's office said.
