Trailing 2-0 in the best-of-five series, the writing looked on the wall for the Rays after they fell behind 3-0 early on Monday then blew a 4-3 lead in the top of the ninth.

Jose Lobaton clubbed a game-winning homer in the ninth to lift Tampa Bay to a 5-4 win over Boston in game three of their opening round Major League Baseball playoff series. Lobaton's pinch-hit shot allowed the Rays to stave off elimination as they rallied from a three-run deficit against the Red Sox for the victory in front of a crowd of 33,675 at Tropicana Field ballpark. Lobaton literally made a big splash Monday, crushing a pitch off Boston reliever Koji Uehara for a solo homer that sailed over the outfield wall and into a giant fish tank next to the bleachers.

The Boston Red Sox got the early upper hand in their Major League Baseball playoff series with Tampa Bay, breezing to a 12-2 victory on Friday at Fenway Park. U.S. Sports Desk, Oct 3 (EFE).- Starter Alex Cobb pitched nearly seven innings of shutout baseball and designated hitter Delmon Young contributed a home run as the Tampa Bay Rays knocked out the Cleveland Indians with a 4-0 road win in the American League Wild Card game. The Indians had won 10 games in a row to leapfrog the Rays and capture the top AL Wild Card spot.
