Tech investor Sequoia takes stake in flight search firm Skyscanner

LONDON (Reuters) - Sequoia Capital, a U.S. venture capital firm which has backed groups including Apple and Google, has taken a minority stake in flight search company Skyscanner, valuing the Edinburgh-based business at $800 million. Sequoia, which has also worked with Cisco and Yahoo, did not give details on the level of funding but said Scottish Equity Partners would remain Skyscanner's largest investor.

Hotwire launches airfare alert service

Discount travel site Hotwire.com has launched a new website that will alert travelers when airfare prices for their destinations drop. What started out as a secondary tool on its website for users looking to monitor bargain travel deals has been expanded to become an independent website. After inputtting trip details -- dates, destinations, preferred airlines and and airports --  TripWatcher.com will send users real-time alerts for airfare prices that depart from the US.
