Million jars of peanut butter dumped in New Mexico after bankruptcy dispute

ALBUQUERQUE, N.M. - Nearly a million jars of peanut butter were dumped at a New Mexico landfill this week to expedite the sale of a bankrupt peanut-processing plant that was at the heart of a 2012 salmonella outbreak and nationwide recall. Bankruptcy trustee Clarke Coll said he had no other choice after Costco Wholesale refused to take shipment of the Sunland Inc. product and declined requests to let it be donated to food banks or repackaged or sold to brokers who provide food to institutions like prisons. "We considered all options," Coll said. "They didn't agree."

Tim Hortons creates 'Alberta Rose' doughnut to raise cash for flood relief

OAKVILLE, Ont. - Tim Hortons patrons wanting to help with flood relief might want to consider ordering an Alberta Rose with their coffee in the next little while. The chain restaurant says it has created a special doughnut by that name that will be sold for $1 at its Alberta outlets for a limited time. Tim Hortons says all the money raised will be donated to Red Cross flood relief efforts in southern Alberta. The rose-shaped disaster doughnut is vanilla dipped, has a yellow Venetian cream centre and is topped with pink, red and white strawberry bark.

Tim Hortons enlists Jason Priestley to help find new doughnut for menu

TORONTO - Vancouver-born celebrity Jason Priestley is teaming up with Tim Hortons to look for an original doughnut, invented by a member of the Canadian public. The competition offers a $10,000 grand prize for the winning pastry. "It's no secret I love Tim Hortons," Priestley said in a release. Priestley is best known for his role on the '90s television show "Beverly Hills, 90210." In February he had a cameo on popular sitcom "How I Met Your Mother," in a role that inspired the contest.
