Mia Couto awarded Camöes Portuguese literature prize

The Camöes Prize for 2013 has been given to Mia Couto, the Mozambican author of "The Tuner of Silences" and "Sleepwalking Land." The annual Prêmio Camöes recognizes the achievements of an author writing in Portuguese, and Couto is the second Mozambican to receive it following José Craveirinha in 1991; José Saramago, winning in 1995, remains the only Portuguese writer to claim the Nobel Prize in Literature, which he did three years later in 1998.
