Rio's public prosecutor has charged 15 policemen with the kidnap, torture and murder of a slum resident, leaving 25 under investigation, media reports said Wednesday.
Amarildo de Souza, a 47-year-old bricklayer, disappeared in the Rocinha favela or slum area of the city on July 14.
Souza had earlier been arrested and taken to a Police Pacification Unit (UPP) on suspicion of being involved in drug trafficking.
Ten police, including UPP commander Major Edson Santos, were arrested on October 2 on suspicion of involvement in the disappearance of family man de Souza.
